Metro

Metro was launched in March 1999 as a free, stapled, colourful newspaper targeted at information hungry morning commuters. Distributed initially in London, Metro has now launched in a number of key urban centres across the country. Every weekday morning, over 1.3 million copies are distributed in London, Yorkshire, North West, North East, East Midlands, Bristol, Birmingham, Liverpool, Cardiff and Scotland. Metro's readership is 3.3m (NRS Dec 08)

Metro is the UK's only urban national newspaper. Metro is designed to be read in about 20 minutes and contains bite-sized national and international news wrapped around local information - entertainment previews, listings, weather and travel

Metro is read by a young, urbanite audience who are reached as they commute to work in the morning, 66% of readers are ABC1, 70% are aged 18-44. Metro readers are time-starved individuals who are increasingly difficult to reach using traditional media. Research shows that Metro readers enjoy active social lives, including visiting pubs, restaurants and the cinema. Many of Metro's valued audience never read or were lapsed readers of national newspapers, making them highly sought after by advertisers.
